Making a Childhood

Our days are so packed, and they are just flying by us!  With that said, I do completely appreciate how much freedom homeschooling allows us.  Our days are not spent away from each other followed by hurried afternoons and homework until bedtime.  We have the freedom to explore our passions and interests... and those are what keep us busy.  For us, academics are important and stressed, but it is not life itself.  Just as it is unhealthy for adults to "live to work", children should not live for school.  There is more to life, to childhood, to a soul.  We are in this together, and for that I am so thankful.

The other day, Asa told me that he really liked his science teacher a lot.  "She's a lot like you!" he explained.  To him, it was just a comparison.  For me, it was a big deal.  My 13 year old likes and appreciates me.  I do not take that lightly.  I know there will be times when each of them struggle with authority and flex their independence.  But, if despite emotional ups and downs we can continue this relationship of mutual respect, I believe we will be just fine.  Without respect, nothing good can happen.
